Episcopal Church Women

Since 1871, the National Episcopal Church Women, ECW, have championed women’s rights and the Christian foundation of God and family. They are an affiliate of the Episcopal Church and celebrate that Episcopalians believe in a loving, liberating, and life-giving God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

The ECW of Wye Parish is an active group that supports the Wye Church and helps the church maintain a strong presence of outreach ministry in the community. The membership automatically includes all the women of the church. The group meets monthly, September through June for fellowship, to plan fund raising activities, support local charities. Monthly meetings, are presided over by the president, vice-president, treasurer and recording secretary. Special meetings are held to create handmade items for the annual bazaar or to plan special activities.

Monies to fund our endeavors come primarily from our annual Christmas Bazaar, held on the first Saturday in November. Over the past 57 years, the Wye Parish Bazaars has been an annual pre-Christmas stop for many in our local communities. Click here for more information on the Bazaar.

Each year, we contribute to the many needs of our unique, historic two-church  parish, such as painting, carpeting and reupholstering. We also support the vestry’s general operating budget. ECW also selects local charitable organizations, by vote of the membership, to support financially. Donations to community organizations for 2020 include: Hospices of both Queen Anne’s and Talbot Counties, Camp Wright, Young Life, Rebuilding Together, Talbot CASA, Queen Anne’s County Crossroads, Mid Shore Family Violence, Haven Ministries, Samaritan House, Cub Scout Pack 264, Boy Scout Troop 464, Wye Conservatory of Music, and the community Vacation Bible School.

Members of the ECW also participate in the church vestry’s annual Crab Feast fundraiser and provides food for the Books Cafe’s lunch room. It’s the lunch room that puts the cafè in Books Café. The proceeds from the Books Café kitchen enhance Wye Parish ECW’s ongoing ministries.

The group hosts two social events during the year: a January luncheon, to which we invite our wonderful, faithful church men whose help is invaluable to the success of the Bazaar. We conclude each year with our June coffee, where we enjoy each other’s company and leave with plans and prayers for the next year’s services for Wye Parish.
