Word to the Wyes 1/6/22

Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.’.

Luke 3:21-22

First Sunday after the Epiphany
The Baptism of our Lord
8:00 am service of Holy Communion – St. Luke’s Chapel
10:00 am service of Morning Prayer – Old Wye Church
We look forward to welcoming you in person for the First Sunday after the Epiphany. Due to the rise in transmission of the Covid19 variant, we are requesting that all attending in person wear a mask. Prayers for your health and well being in the New Year.

Collect for First Sunday after the Epiphany
Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Birthday blessings for Reverend Charlie and Rita Whaley,
Warmest regards to all this Season of Epiphany,
Reverend Charlie

Winter/Spring Kerygma Fellowship
The Kerygma course, Reading the Bible as a Whole, continues on Monday, January 10th at 10 am in the Wye Parish Library. The winter/spring course is a weekly discovery of the New Testament beginning with The Good News and concluding with the Revelation of John. I look forward to welcoming everyone to this vision of reading the Scriptures together.

Children’s Church Holy Communion Class
We Give Thanks is a course preparing children to receive Holy Communion with deeper understanding.
We Give Thanks is scheduled at 10 am the first Sundays of months leading to Easter 2022. Please note this change in date: Our next gathering will be January 16th (third Sunday in January).
On February 6, Joanne Fisher, Youth Missioner and Communications Director of the Diocese, will meet with parents and parishioners after the church service and communion class at Old Wye to discuss the future of our children’s ministry.

Haven Ministries - Hope Through Shelter, Clothing & FoodChanging of the Guard at Haven Ministries
(with regard to Wye Parish)
After 8 years on the Board of Directors at Haven Ministries, my maximum of two 4 yr. terms have come to an end. I thank everyone, very much, for their generosity, cooperation and support of Haven Ministries (Homeless Shelter, Food Pantry, Our Daily Thread Thrift Store, Hope Warehouse furniture store and our new Homes of Hope Low-Cost Temporary Housing).
The great news is that Mary Julie has just been voted and approved as my replacement on the board and your new Wye Parish contact for Haven Ministries.
I am sure that you will show her your continued support and generosity for Haven Ministries.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas blessings,
Rick Culotta

Haven Ministries - Hope Through Shelter, Clothing & Food
Attention to all Homeless Shelter Volunteers:
We thank Mary Julie for providing dinner again on December 16th!
Haven Ministries Homeless Shelter is open again for the Fall, Winter and Spring session:
For now, due to the pandemic and safety concerns, our guests are being cared for by the Haven Ministries Staff.  However, dinners are still being provided by volunteers from the various member churches. Providing dinners is easier than in the past, as you only need to drop off the dinner (usu. meat and veggie casserole) at 5:30 at the Kent Island United Methodist Church.  The next dinner opportunity for our Parish is January 21st and has already been filled.  Please contact Mary Julie: [email protected]/410-310-3577, if you are interested in being a volunteer for this season or want more information before committing.
Thank you very much!  Rick Culotta

Haven Ministries - Hope Through Shelter, Clothing & FoodDonations of non-perishable food are warmly accepted for the Haven Ministries Emergency Food Shelter. Food donation boxes are located at both St. Luke’s Chapel and Old Wye Church.  The Food Pantry at Haven Ministries is open for daily distribution.
